The Port of Seattle is one of the top employers and revenue generating engines in the Pacific Northwest. Jesse will work with our vibrant local business, labor, Tribal, and environmental communities to ensure that our port attracts leading regional employers, as well as remaining a leader in major sustainable economic development and prosperity in the Pacific Northwest. Jesse is ready to employ his decades of pragmatic business and finance experience to sustain and grow well-paying, living wage opportunities in the Puget Sound Region.
One of the many challenges that the port faces, is that it must compete head-to-head with the major ports of Los Angeles, San Diego, Vancouver, and Prince Rupert. Jesse's extensive domestic and international banking and negotiation experience brings essential, much-needed skill sets to the port. The Port of Seattle is the gateway to the world and connector for growing our economy and advancing our environmental goals in reducing pollution, transitioning off fossil fuels and promoting off-shore wind, solar panels to projects promoting electric terminals. Investing in high-speed rail, improving freight mobility and streamlining our operations will improve the flow of goods and passengers throughout our region.
Jesse is always aware that it is our hard-earned tax money that funds a meaningful portion of the port's operations. Therefore, every budget item and every project of the port needs to be transparent and accountable. To lower that tax burden, Jesse will maximize the port's user-generated revenue, assess and improve upon systems and processes, removing needless bureaucratic hurdles, and balancing the port's budget - just like smart families do every day.
Jesse's extensive experience in the banking industry is just one of his major strengths in providing excellent financial responsibility. Jesse knows the struggles working individuals/families face and the impact of inequality.
Jesse's track record of financial acumen and budget transparency is second to none. He will be able to hit the ground running — negotiating with stakeholders and regional governments to ensure our Port of Seattle is running efficiently, transparently and profitably.
Jesse knows that our region does not succeed without strong protections and advocacy for our union workers and our environment. He is known as a great listener to all stakeholders in every important decision and will bring these values to every issue at the Port.
Climate change needs our full and urgent attention to ensure that our next generations will enjoy the same quality of life as we do today. The port must therefore position itself to create and sustain next-generation living wage jobs with strong benefits for workers, professionals and their families by bargaining fairly, supporting project labor agreements while cooperating with and recognizing all regional business communities' needs.
